Top Kit vs. Bottom Kit

Top Kit

You'll want a Top Kit if:

There is less than 1.5 inches (38mm) of clearance between the tank and the throttle housing at full right turn.

There's a heated grip wire that comes out of the bottom half of your rubber grip flange.

Bottom Kit

You'll want a Bottom Kit if:

There's a heated grip wire that comes out the top half of your rubber grip flange.

There are no other interferences. The majority of motorcycles will be able to use the Bottom Kit.

How to Determine Fitment

Will it fit your motorcycle?

Steps to determine fitment

Step 1: Check for adequate spacing for the ATLAS between the throttle housing and the grip flange.

All you need is a gap of 2.5 mm or greater between the grip and the throttle housing. That's roughly 3 thick bank cards wide. If you need more space than this, you can most likely pull back your grip flange to gain the room needed. Please play the video under the section "Will it for your motorcycle" and scroll to 33 seconds. This will show you how to pull the grip flange back.

Step 2: Use our 'Make, Model and Year' search tool to locate your motorcycle. The search tool will show you exactly which unit to purchase. If you can't find your motorcycle, please click the Contact Us button below. We are happy to help you make this decision.

If you can't find your model and you know which kit you need, select 'Other' in the 'Model' section to gain access to all kits.

Friction Pads

Everything you need to know about using the friction pads with the ATLAS Throttle Lock.

Friction Pads are required.
The ATLAS Throttle Lock was designed to be used with friction pads. Friction pads can last 60,000 miles or more as long as you choose the right pad for your bike. You will also preserve your pad by avoiding any contact with your throttle housing’s sharp seam. This is explained in our installation instructions.
Which friction pad should you use?
The friction pads come in 4 different thicknesses. You will only need to apply one pad to your ATLAS. Watch our installation videos and follow the instructions to determine which friction pad works best.
Are the friction pads adjustable?
Yes, they are! The pegs at the end of the friction pads have 2 equally spaced notches which can be cut off to move the friction pad away from the throttle housing’s curved ridge. This is explained in our installation instructions.

Atlas on 2021 Himalayan

Can’t get it to work. It’s either too tight or too loose. Tried pad 1 and #2. Sad.

Hey John! We'll be happy to assist with this. Please reach out to us at info@atlasmoto.com with pictures of the throttle housing and grip setup on your bike, and we will help with your install.

Thanks!

Excellent Solution

Excellent solution for long distance motorbikes that do not come equipped with factory cruise control.

TRIUMPH ROCKET

Lads, this is a outstanding product, my brother Keith (who I purchased it for) couldn't stop talking about it. I didn't need one until now when I purchased a 2006 Rocket, which has many knows it doesn't come with a electronic cruise control like later bikes. I also purchased a third one for an old mat (67) who unfortunately rides a old HOG. He loves it too, gives the hands a break on the long rides. So thanks for the product, and a tip for young players don't over tight the grab screw, it stuffs up the bike throttle.

Rick and his VSTAR 650

The largest pad is too big and does not work. The next pad down will hold the throttle partially. Engine and road vibration causes the cruise control to slip a bit.

Hey Ricky!

The VStar may have extra steps involved in getting the ATLAS to fit.Does your bike have the rubber grip with the chromed plastic grip flange as seen in this video? https://youtu.be/kimdg9img4A?si=4FhwVnsGGS_h3Z-w

If it does, follow the steps in that video to create more space for the ATLAS to fit. You have to squish over the rubber grip sleeve, which allows the chrome flange to move over, revealing a larger diameter section of the throttle tube that is perfect for the ATLAS to mount to.

In the video, we use a tool to pry on the chrome flange to squish over the rubber sleeve, but you can do this without tools by pinching the rubber sleeve in your fingers and dragging it away from the chrome flange, achieving the same result.

Atlas on a 3rd gen KLR

I recently installed an Atlas throttle lock on my 2023 KLR and it works perfectly. As we've all experienced from time to time on a longer road trip we need to give out throttle hand a brief break, this accessory is perfect for that application. One push of a button and it id engage, another push of a second button and it is disengaged. I recommend the Atlas throttle lock for everyone who's bike doesn't have cruise control.

Exactly what I wanted

I'll start of with saying that the Atlas throttle lock feels premium.
I rushed my first attempt at installation and squeezed in the smallest rubber pad in the 3mm gap which did not allow the throttle to return to its original position.
To resolve this issue, I moved my switchgear away from the throttle lock by about 1mm which resolve the issues. This is an expensive produce but its a worthwhile investment if you ride regularly on the motorway.

Best option for bikes without cruise control.

I researched the options available and chose Atlas. I couldn’t be happier. Easy install, solid materials, blends with the bike, works flawlessly. 100% satisfied with my choice. I chose the bottom kit for aesthetics, top kit would provide easier access to start button. 2014 Victory Vegas 8-Ball w/ Avon heated grips.

3k on a 2002 HD FLHT

I just purchased the Atlas throttle lock based on reviews I read online. I am not disappointed! I rode close to 3 thousand miles through Maryland, Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama and Florida. I used it a lot. Installation was a breeze, and it worked better than I expected!! Easy on, easy off, easy to make small adjustments to the throttle while locked. My throttle hand thanks you!

Very well made and an intelligent design.

The throttle lock is well made and thought out, much nicer than the other throttle locks I have seen with an easy on off one finger function.

only complaint in the application I had (sample of one) I would like to see something added to the back side to prevent camming of the throttle lock. I have not seen an issue with the movement but it would be nice if when locking the throttle the body of the throttle lock moved less in the back.
